The Suffren submarine passed the acceptance cerremony
6 November 2020
On Friday, November 6, Minister of the Armed Forces Florence Parly presided over the acceptance ceremony for the Suffren nuclear-powered attack submarine (SNA) at the Toulon naval base. Also in attendance were the General Delegate for Armaments, the Director of Military Applications at the CEA, the CEO of Naval Group, and Loïc Rocard, CEO of TechnicAtome.
The SNA Suffren has now been transferred to the French Navy following its acceptance by the Directorate General of Armaments (DGA). As the first in a series of six SNAs under the BARRACUDA program, the Suffren has just completed all the tests conducted by the DGA since last April as part of its overall qualification process.
TechnicAtome, responsible for the design and construction of the Suffren’s nuclear propulsion plant, participated in the tests to validate its performance.
For Loïc Rocard, “delivering the Suffren to the Navy is the culmination of twelve years of work by all our colleagues involved in the project. It is a source of great pride to have been able to fulfill the significant commitments we made long ago, to thereby justify the trust placed in us, and, most recently, to have navigated an unprecedented health crisis without major setbacks. I am happy and proud, on behalf of all our employees, who embody cutting-edge industry and engineering in the service of national sovereignty.”
