Visit TechnicAtome at the EuroNaval trade show
4 October 2022
From October 18 to 21, 2022, TechnicAtome will be participating in the EURONAVAL 2022 trade show. For the 28th edition of this global defense and naval technology trade show, TechnicAtome will showcase its major ongoing nuclear propulsion projects at its booth, starting with the reactor core for the future aircraft carrier. A total of 11 nuclear reactor cores will be delivered over the next two decades.
Through the Barracuda program, launched in 1998, TechnicAtome has designed and built the nuclear reactors for six nuclear attack submarines (SNA) over the past 25 years. These submarines are equipped with onboard nuclear power plants offering ever-increasing availability, energy capacity, and nuclear safety. The first in the series, the Suffren, was delivered to the Navy in November 2020 and entered active service in June 2022. The nuclear reactor of the second in the series, the Duguay-Trouin, reached the decisive milestone of first divergence on September 30, 2022.
The third generation of nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines (SNLE 3G) entered the construction phase in early 2021, with delivery of the first in the series scheduled for 2035. Production of the first components has begun, in parallel with the detailed design and development of the entire reactor system. The nuclear power plant, designed by TechnicAtome, incorporates significant innovations.
The launch of studies for the next-generation aircraft carrier has mobilized the company to design a power plant capable of delivering unprecedented levels of power and energy capacity to meet the ship’s operational needs.
For more than 50 years, the EuroNaval trade show, held every two years, has brought together all defense shipbuilding manufacturers and key decision-makers to exchange ideas and discover the latest advancements. At each edition, tens of thousands of visitors can meet with nearly 500 exhibitors.
