TA delivered a instrumentation and control system” to Hinkley Point C
12 May 2025
Since 2012, TechnicAtome has been working with its client Framatome to supply BackUp I&C emergency control and protection systems. These systems meet the British safety authority’s requirement to use technology that differs from conventional systems: the end customer, NNB, selected an analog technology developed by TechnicAtome and its subsidiary ARCYS.
In April, the BackUp I&C program entered its final phase with the shipment of the first instrumentation and control boxes to the Hinkley Point C reactors construction site in the United Kingdom.
The emergency isntrumentation and control systems for a single reactor consist of approximately 5,000 electronic boards distributed across 76 boxes. And there are two reactors, each to be equipped with two such systems..

On March 13, the program teams reached the “Goods Ready for Dispatch” milestone for the first instrumentation and controle system of Reactor 1. On April 14, the 28 boxes left TA and arrived in England the following week.
This summer, the same milestone will be reached for the second instrumentation and control system of Reactor 1. Then it will be Reactor 2’s turn to receive its boxes in 2026.
The program involved about 50 employees in the planning, design, integration, and validation phases. “It’s a great pride to see the boxes heading to England. We’ve been working on this for over 10 years; today’s achievement is the result of everyone’s dedication and the synergy among all the teams,” commented Cédric Riviere, BackUp I&C project manager.
