TechnicAtome contributes to the reactors maintenance maintenance of the Charles de Gaulle aircarft carrier

15 November 2018

As part of the mid-life refit of the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle, which was recently completed under the project management of Naval Group, TechnicAtome successfully contributed to the maintenance operations of the ship’s two nuclear propulsion reactors. This extraordinary program was led by a “Team France” comprising the Directorate General of Armaments, the French Navy, the Fleet Support Service, the aircraft carrier’s crew, and key players from French industry.

The work carried out on board consisted of unloading the nuclear cores and reloading them with new fuel, as well as work on electrical systems, ventilation, control- command systems, and requalification tests. The refurbishment of the reactors’ main components, meanwhile, was carried out at TechnicAtome’s sites in Aix-en-Provence and Cadarache.
For TechnicAtome, the aircraft carrier’s refit involved:
• more than a year of preparation, training, and staff instruction,
• 200,000 hours of work by 200 employees involved, both at the home port in Toulon and at sea.

TechnicAtome CEO Loïc Rocard expressed “the pride of all our employees in having worked alongside Naval Group on this major project for our country’s sovereignty.”
