TechnicAtome and Naval Group are partners on training using virtual reality
31 January 2024
On Wednesday, January 17, the head of the Nuclear Training Center at Naval Group’s Brest site visited the TechnicAtome Innovation Laboratory (LITA) in Cadarache for the installation of new virtual reality modules designed for training in maintenance procedures for nuclear propulsion boiler rooms. This partnership is part of the industrial cooperation that began more than 25 years ago between the two companies.
Virtual reality allows trainees to use a headset to immerse themselves in a 3D environment and practice a procedure according to a predefined scenario validated by TechnicAtome’s teams to ensure perfect technical accuracy. This technology significantly enhances learning by providing an understanding of nuclear maintenance environments that cannot be achieved through traditional training methods. Immersive training complements the existing on-site training and mentoring processes. Jean-Damien du Rivau, head of reactor and facility operations at Cadarache, sees many benefits to this new program: “It will facilitate the onboarding of the 40 operators we plan to recruit for our projects.”
This new partnership highlights the strong relationship between Naval Group and TechnicAtome.
