Another milestone reached for the NUWARD SMR project

Alongside its partners, TechnicAtome is contributing to the NUWARD SMR project by providing its expertise and know-how in compact reactors. The NUWARD SMR project has just reached a new milestone.

The NUWARD SMR Safety Options Document has just been submitted to the French Nuclear Safety Authority (ASN). The Safety Options Document is a document that outlines the safety objectives, design characteristics, and key principles of operation and risk management for the NUWARD SMR. It enables early feedback from the ASN prior to the future application for a new nuclear facility, which is required to begin construction of a power plant in France.

Since June 10, 2022, the French (ASN), Finnish (STUK), and Czech (SUJB) safety authorities, with their respective technical support teams, have begun a preliminary review of the main safety options for the NUWARD SMR. This international safety review is expected to facilitate progress in harmonizing the licensing processes applicable to this small reactor, which is intended for export.
